Ceo Sleepout
01 August 2012
MCEC’s Chief Executive, Peter King spent a night under the stars at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne to raise funds and awareness for the homeless as part of the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 21 June 2012.
King said: “Equipped with only a sleeping bag, pillow, cardboard and soup I found it a real eye opener to what homeless Australians confront every night.”
Over $3,000 was raised in support of his sleepout which went directly to the ongoing provision of the St Vincent de Paul Society homeless service across Australia.
Now in its third year, the fundraiser asks CEOs and business and community leaders to experience homelessness for one night by sleeping outdoors.
More than 100,000 Australians sleep rough each night of the year, with just under half of these being women and a quarter of these under the age of 18.
The CEO Sleepout is just one of many initiatives as part of MCEC’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, aimed at supporting Melbourne’s community, industry and environment.
